According to the Programme of the 6-month Polish presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2011 the presidency in the field of statistics was working on improving the quality, reliability and effectiveness of the European Statistical System by strengthening its integration. The Presidency was also supporting the initiatives aiming at reducing burdens on respondents and lowering costs of statistical research by negotiating the legal dossiers mentioned bellow:
  • European statistics on permanent crops – finalized by Polish Presidency – proposal was adopted in first reading agreement
  • Statistical returns in respect of the carriage of goods by roads – finalized by Polish Presidency – proposal was adopted in first reading agreement

In compliance with central presidency priorities, in October 2011 the CSO hosted the conference in October 2011 on: ‘Development of the European Statistical System within Eastern Partnership – directions and strategy’. The event was an opportunity to present experiences of European statisticians on adjusting activities in the period of crisis. The conference also triggered a discussion on common scientific, financial and training projects, on common surveys methodologies as well as on regional and transborder co-operation.

Polish presidency in the field of statistics would like to thank all parties we had the pleasure to cooperate with during presidency period. We believe that our common effort resulted in further integration and optimalization of European Statistical System.
We wish the trio partners a successful Presidency in 2012.
