According to the Programme of the 6-month Polish presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2011 the presidency in the field of statistics was working on improving the quality, reliability and effectiveness of the European Statistical System by strengthening its integration. The Presidency was also supporting the initiatives aiming at reducing burdens on respondents and lowering costs of statistical research by negotiating the legal dossiers mentioned bellow:
- European statistics on permanent crops – finalized by Polish Presidency – proposal was adopted in first reading agreement
- Statistical returns in respect of the carriage of goods by roads – finalized by Polish Presidency – proposal was adopted in first reading agreement
- European system of national and regional accounts – the content of Annex A (Methodology) chapters was agreed. The scope of Annex B (Transmission Programme) tables was accepted. The legal text and minor issues in some tables remain for further discussion.
- Statistics on safety from crime – Presidency managed to debate on the whole scope of regulation. Compromise text was also presented and discussed.
In compliance with central presidency priorities, in October 2011 the CSO hosted
the conference in October 2011 on: ‘Development of the European Statistical
System within Eastern Partnership – directions and strategy’. The event was an
opportunity to present experiences of European statisticians on adjusting
activities in the period of crisis. The conference also triggered a discussion
on common scientific, financial and training projects, on common surveys
methodologies as well as on regional and transborder co-operation.
Polish presidency in the field of statistics would like to thank all parties we
had the pleasure to cooperate with during presidency period. We believe that our
common effort resulted in further integration and optimalization of European
Statistical System.
