Entry into Regon register is obligatory for:

• Legal persons,

• Organizational units without the status of a legal person,

• Natural persons running business activity (including private farms),

• Local units of subjects mentioned above.

On registration each subject receives certificate of assigned REGON identification number.

Persons filling in a request should submit a copy of a document authorising to conduct business activity (e.g. extract from a court register, decision, company deeds, legal act, concession or the articles).

Business unit is obliged to:

• Use the ID number certificate in official and businesslike contacts,

• Disclose the number on company stamps and official forms,

• Apply for changes of variables covered with the registration (within two weeks from the moment of ensued circumstances).

Regulations:

The national official business register KRUPGN (REGON) is based on the regulations:

• Law dated 29 June 1995 on public statistics (Journal of Laws No 88, item 439, with changes; Journal of Laws, 1995 No 156 item 775; Journal of Laws, 1997 no 88 item 554 and no 121, item 769),

• Instruction of the President of the CSO dated 10 October 1997 on the national official business register (MP no 77, item 731),

• Instruction no 11 of the President of the CSO dated 10 October 1997 on form, range and dates of notifying of changes to records of private farms and plots (CSO Official Journal no 12, item 85),

• Regulation of the Council of Ministers date 27 July 1999 on mode and methodology of running and updating business register including applications, questionnaires and certificates, specimen and detailed conditions and form of cooperation of official statistics services with other bodies running official registers and information systems of public administration.

The national official business register REGON, established in 1997, was enlarged in 1999 with:

• local units,

• codes of types of activity according to Polish Classification of Activities (PKD) introduced by regulation of the Council of Ministers dated 7 October 1997 on Polish Classification of Activities (PKD) - (Journal of Laws no 128, item 827) and current actualisation in the form of RG application submitted by national economy umits.

Legal units have 9-digit ID REGON number, local units - 14-digit number (9-digit number of legal person + 5-digit ordinal number assigned to a local unit). Once assigned, the number will not be used for identification of any other subject.
