The Statistical Office in Gdańsk is one of 16 statistical offices - public statistics local units subordinated to the Central Statistical Office in Warsaw. The office acts on the base of:

• law dated 29 June 1995 on public statistics (Journal of Laws No 88, item 439 with later amendments),
• Instruction no 8 of the President of CSO dated 20 Nov. 1998 on detailed range of tasks and organization of the Statistical Office in Gdańsk (CSO Official Journal 1999 no 49, item 483 with later amendments),
• law dated 18 December 1998 on civil service (Journal of Laws No 88, item 439 with later amendments),
• Organization Statute of the Office introduced by the instruction of Director of the SO in Gdańsk dated 6 December 2002 with later amendments.

THE OFFICE PERFORMS THE FOLLOWING TASKS:

• Organizes, conducts and edits statistical surveys on the territory of Pomorskie voivodship according to the programme of statistical surveys and CSO directives, including mass surveys (national censuses, agricultural censuses, etc.),

• Undertakes to conduct surveys in cooperation with government administration in Pomorskie voivodship, as well as other individual surveys not settled by the programme,

• Disseminates the results of surveys,

• Administers country official registers of the national economy entieties and territorial division, in sections referring to Pomorskie voivodship,

• Administers the information infrastructure of public statistics services in Pomorskie voivodship,

• Monitors the need for information and statistical analysis,

• Takes part in works in the field of methodology and organization of education and selected aspects of maritime economy,

• Supplies other statistical offices with local data on Pomorskie voivodship,

• Participates in international cooperation in the field  of Euroregions` statistics,

• Popularizes statistical knowledge.
