Subjects and data included in the register
Entry into the REGON register is obligatory for all:
- legal persons,
- organisational units without the status of a legal person,
- natural persons running business activities (including private farms),
- local units of subjects mentioned above.
The register contains following information on subjects quoted above:
- name and address of head office, and in case of natural persons running business activities - additionally names, last name and place of residence and identity card number (PESEL),
- legal form and proprietorial form,
- activities performed, including type of predominant activity,
- dates of establishment, commencement, suspension and termination of business,
- name of registering or recording agency, name of register (record) and ID number issued by this agency,
- number of persons employed and, in case of private farms, general area and cultivated area,
- on local units of subjects quoted in above mentioned range, with exclusion of information on legal form and proprietorial form.
Each subject receives unique ID number - REGON.
Identification number of business unit consists of 9 digits assigned to a legal person, organisational unit without the status of a legal person or a natural person running business activity. First eight digits of the number make an ordinal, whereas the ninth digit is a check code.
Identification number of a local unit consists of 14 digits, where first nine are the ID number of a legal person, organisational unit without a legal person status or a natural person running business activities that created a local unit. Next four digits make an ordinal assigned to this local unit, and the fourteenth is a check code for entire number of a local unit.
Business units that are subject to an entry in the register are obliged to use the ID number certificate in official and businesslike contacts. REGON ID number should be disclosed on company stamps and official forms.
ID number is used in official registers and information systems of public administration. Bodies maintaining such registers and systems are obliged to enter the ID number and use it when transmitting information.
ID number of a unit removed from the register is stored in a historical file and will not be used for identification of any other subject.
